Requirements for the English as a Second Language Minor
(18 credits)
Early Childhood - Adolescence: ages birth-21, grades K-12

With an English as a Second Language (ESL) minor, you will be prepared to meet the needs of the diverse students of Southeastern Wisconsin, who have the double task of learning English while learning academic content. Develop a knowledge base in the areas of second language acquisition, effective ESL teaching practices, research and policy related to second language learners, program models, the history and politics of Bilingual and ESL education, and the rich cultural and linguistic characteristics second language learners bring to school.
All coursework for the minor must be completed with a minimum grade of C+ in each course and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 for the minor is required. Candidates must also meet the content knowledge policy for this license and should consult with the teacher education advisor for up-to-date information on this policy.
This is a licensable minor; license will be granted at the level of the candidate’s initial license endorsement.
