Requirements for the Urban Studies Certificate
To earn the urban studies certificate, students must successfully complete five certificate courses.

|GEOG 360||Urban Geography||3|
|or SOCA 355||Urbanism and Urbanization|
|Select two of the following from different departments: 1||6|
|Geography of Transportation|
|Mayhem and the Metropolis|
|Institutional Racism in America|
|Introduction to Population Studies|
|Migration and Immigration|
|Society and Environment|
|Select one of the following: 2||3|
|Internship in Anthropology|
|Internship in Geography|
|Poverty in American History|
|Internship in Sociology 3|
Note: Prerequisites apply in specific department.
Students must take one course that fulfills a hands-on practical experience, such as an internship or independent study in any related department. Approval of the practicum experience by the Program Director is necessary. Possible options included in list.
All SOCA 492 internships have to be geared towards the area of the certificate. Students who already have experience in any field may receive credit for the practicum category of the certificates but after submitting the necessary documentation and approval by the department.
